This 1989 edition of the Walt Disney World “souvenir guide book” features an eighty-page, color-photo tour through the many facets of the Florida resort.
This is the first resort guidebook to include the addition of the Disney-MGM Studios, which opened a few months prior to publication. The purple cover shows several well-known Disney animated characters fronting the landmarks of each of the resort’s theme parks: Cinderella Castle of the Magic Kingdom, Spaceship Earth of EPCOT Center, and the Earful Tower of the Disney-MGM Studios. Considering the comparatively sparse offerings of the latter, the Studios only receive eight pages’ worth of coverage in the guide. Typhoon Lagoon also makes its first appearance in this 1989 edition, joining River Country as the resort’s second water park. The book also provides an overview of the property’s resort hotels, which now total seven, as well as the Walt Disney World Village, Discovery Island, and Pleasure Island (also celebrating its guidebook debut).
